As most of you know by now, The Voice of Freeport broke the story regarding Alvin Wire’s (R-Dist. H) inappropriate suggestion about adding an enticement clause to the County personnel employment handbook. Those comments on July 8th released a firestorm of objections, a march through downtown Freeport, continued protests and demonstrations, and a controversial decision by the Stephenson County Board not to introduce a resolution asking Wire to resign. The latest part of this saga unfolds tonight at 6:30 with the August full County Board meeting.
Several people at tonight’s protest before the County Board meeting will be wearing the “Major Cleavage” t-shirts. The concept came from a friend of mine (Carl Utt) in Washington D.C. who was following the story from afar. After thinking through the concept, we decided to go ahead and have the shirts made and reached out to VOICES of Stephenson County to let them know we planned to split all profits on the shirt with them. Once all 100 t-shirts are sold, there will be approximately a $700 contribution to VOICES to help fund their essential programs and services. The rest of the money will be used to refund the money put up front for the shirts and help fund future expenses for The Voice of Freeport such as equipment, etc.
